Book Review: Temptation's Heat by Michelle Zink

Written by: Michelle Zink
Publisher: Swoon Romance
Release Date: December 4, 2012
Series: Shadowguard Series (Book 1)
Source: Purchased
Buy: Exclusively on amazon as an e-novella.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This story is HOT.

Synopsis: When Rowen Black is assigned to the elite unit of angelic assassins known as the Shadowguard, he thinks his biggest challenge will be overcoming his less-than-stellar reputation. But that’s before he meets his match in Scarlet Montgomery.

Beautiful, strong, and with a temper to match Rowen’s own, Scarlet is focused on the Shadowguard and her possible future as its leader. She’s become an expert at keeping her personal life separate from the Guard, all too aware that as the boss’s daughter, fellow warriors see her not as someone to be respected, but as someone to be protected.

Avoiding entanglements gets a lot harder when Rowen saunters into the room. Rowen puts the bad in "bad boy." Their connection is hot, visceral, and instantaneous.

When the pair are assigned to a joint investigation, they come face-to-face with their undeniable attraction, forcing Scarlet to consider that the connection is not only physical, but a destiny written in the halls of time.

Okay, there are only 128 pages in this steamy e-novella, but oh my does the chemistry between Scarlet and Rowen sizzle. Michelle sets up a complex world of angelic assassins (Shadowguards) and a mystery that might shatter a treaty between the angelic and demonic world. Scarlet and Rowen lead this investigation, but first they have to sort out their own attraction to each other.

I'm not a big paranormal romance reader, but this story had me clicking over to download the sequel novella.

Quick aside: The top cover is the one that I downloaded when I purchased the novella, looks like the covers have been changed, but I love the picture of Scarlet and Rowen above. I mean, look at them...holy hotness!

Book Review: Wish List by Sylvia Day

Written by: Sylvia Day
Publisher: Sylvia Day
Release Date: 12/2/2005
Source: Purchased
Buy: kobo | amazon | Barnes and Noble

Rating: Not for me, but here's the goodreads link with lots of positive reviews.

Synopsis: When Nicholas James draws Stephanie Martin’s name in their law firm’s Secret Santa exchange he knows he’s in for a merry Christmas—if he can figure out what to give the woman he’s wanted for months. When he works late and finds a crumpled piece of paper listing Steph’s personal wish list, he knows he’s in luck. Because all Steph wants for Christmas is him, in a number of naughty ways.

And not-so saintly Nick is going to make every one of her carnal wishes come true.

Er, I don't even know where to start. I purchased the ebook wanting a fluffy, sexy story. But I found the very premise a little laughable to say the least. What attorney (truly anyone who works in an office of any size) would write and throw out a wish list of steamy things she wanted to do with the OfficeBadBoy?

I know what you're thinking, umm, Sophie it's not fine literature you purchased. No, it's not but I use the same standard for chick-lit, fantasy, paranormal, my beloved YA as I do for anything (yes, even business correspondence) -- hook me with a believable or semi-believable premise. Unfortunately, I didn't find that here.

I think that this genre, in general, may not be for me. But, hey cute dude on the cover looks rather yummy holding that Santa hat. I'm sure from all the positive reviews on goodreads that Sylvia Day fans will love this holiday themed novella.
