INSPIRE Blog Tour: Author Interview with Cora Carmack & Enter To WIN!

Hello & Welcome to today's INSPIRE blog tour stop, hosted by InkSlingerPR.
I'm so thrilled to have author Cora Carmack on the blog today to talk about her newest release INSPIRE.

Hi Cora! Welcome back to Mundie Moms's Grown Up Book Review blog. I am so thrilled to have you here today. Congrats on your newest release, INSPIRE. How would you describe your book in 5 words or less?
1. Romantic
2. Intense
3. Emotional
4. Sexy
5. Mysterious

INSPIRE has all the right elements in it. You introduced me to some great characters I loved getting to know, you have sizzling character chemistry, sexy times, an awesome paranormal romance, and I love how you always blend together the angst, sassiness, and lighthearted moments that I've come to except with your books. What element was the most fun for you to create? What was the hardest?
Is it a cop-out to say “the entire book”? :D I had SUCH a blast writing this story. Before Losing It was published, I was writing fantasy pretty much exclusively. The first book I ever wrote (which is unpublished and hidden away in the dark corners of an old computer) was fantasy, and I feel very much at home writing in a paranormal universe.  In a way it was harder than writing a contemporary romance, because there were so many different aspects of the story to juggle, but in a way that also made it easier - if I got bored or stuck in a romantic scene, I could switch gears and focus on a paranormal scene, or vice versa.

As far as the hardest element….I won’t spoil anything, but there’s a part about three fourths of the way through the book (around the end of Part 3) that almost broke me. I always get really emotionally invested in my characters when I write, and I just remember sitting on my couch writing that part and SOBBING. I’ve never been so thankful that I live by myself, because I was a MESS. I’m sure Kitty Katniss thought I had lost my mind.

INSPIRE is awesome! What is one of your favorite quotes from your book? Do you have a favorite scene? For the sake of spoilers, please feel free to just say the chapter or page number.
Favorite quote is probably... "I don't give a f*ck about genius, but I'll take madness if it gives me you first."

That Wilder has a way with words. ;) I also really loved writing Ch. 2, specifically the second half when Kalli is struggling with the darkness that her ability brings out when she doesn't use it as she's supposed to. That was just such a different and interesting scene.

Let's talk about Kalliope (Kalli) for a moment. I really like her character. What's something you admire about her?
I love Kalli's complexity.  She's lived so long that nothing is black and white for her. She appreciates the beauty that her gift gives her, but she also hates it a little too. Art is her whole world, her entire existence, and she does love it. But there are times when she desperately wants a existence far away from creativity of any kind. It's incredibly fun to play with a character that has that kind of dynamic. Especially when it's not about her being indecisive. It's just the effect of immortality. I also find it strangely comforting to know that even after all these years, she doesn’t have everything figured out. I loved being able to discover new things within this character who has been alive for millennia.

I love mythology and loves how how you infused Greek Mythology into INSPIRE. I feel adding in Greek Mythology into a story would require a lot of research. Really it would intimidate as a writer. Did you do a lot of research when you were writing INSPIRE?
I wasn’t too intimidated since I had a lot o knowledge of Greek mythology already. I mean, I don’t claim to be a Greek scholar or anything :) but I’ve always been interested in it, and Greek mythology is a huge part of theatre history, which I studied in college and taught during my two years teaching high school theater. I did a little bit more research to dig into muses specifically - for example, their names. Kalliope was actually an obvious choice, b/c she was the oldest of the sister and her name was easiest to modernize. But rather than getting caught up  making sure I was being entirely “historically” accurate, I just kind of threw that all away and wrote the story. Greek myths were handed down through generations by word of mouth and in various works of art, so of course the details changed over time. You can research a particular myth and find four versions of the same story.  So I didn't stress about being 100% true to the information out there. I had to make this world (and Kalli) my own.

Hello Mr Hotness. Let's talk about Wilder. *fans self* I'm at a loss as to what to even ask about him, other than the fact I think he's my favorite male character of yours. In terms of your other male characters, was he pretty easy to write, and get to know? I imagine he had a lot he wanted you to write.
You know, I say this about every book boyfriend right after writing them - but I really think Wilder might be my favorite. He’s such a good guy, and so selfless. It took me a while to get him how I wanted. In the first draft, he was too sweet. So I went back and made him sexier, more masculine. I also didn’t plan to write from his perspective. I originally planned for the book to be entirely from Kalli’s POV, but once I actually started writing, it didn’t work as well as I thought it would. We needed to see Kalli from an outsider’s perspective, and having his POV helped to ground the book as NA, by showing his real life, human struggles. It also helped flesh him out (and made him even sexier). And yes, I have it on pretty good authority that he would look nothing short of amazing in a kilt. ;)

Kalliope lives with one purpose.

To inspire.

As an immortal muse, she doesn’t have any other choice. It’s part of how she was made. Musicians, artists, actors—they use her to advance their art, and she uses them to survive. She moves from one artist to the next, never staying long enough to get attached. But all she wants is a different life— a normal one. She’s spent thousands of years living lie after lie, and now she’s ready for something real.

Sweet, sexy, and steady, Wilder Bell feels more real than anything else in her long existence. And most importantly… he’s not an artist. He doesn’t want her for her ability. But she can’t turn off the way she influences people, not even to save a man she might love. Because in small doses, she can help make something beautiful, but her ability has just as much capacity to destroy as it does to create. The longer she stays, the more obsessed Wilder will become. It’s happened before, and it never turns out well for the mortal.

Her presence may inspire genius.

But it breeds madness, too.

WICKED blog tour: Interview with Ren

Hello and welcome to the last stop in the WICKED blog tour, hosted by InkSlinger. I am so thrilled to have Ren on the blog today. If you haven't already met Ren, you are missing out! You can check out my review and thoughts on Ren here, and read an excerpt here.

HI Ren! Thank you for being here today. What is one word you'd use to describe yourself?

"Dapper. I'm so dapper."

What was your first impression of Ivy after she was tended to from her injury (no spoilers)?

She seriously looks like Merida from Brave. So I thought a Disney movie had come alive. Stranger things have happened.
One of the things I like about your relationship with Ivy, is you seem to know what she wants before she knows herself. You're extremely patient with her, while she figures out what it is she wants, which is obviously you. Were you ever worried that she might be too stubborn and not admit her feelings to you?

You just made me laugh out out loud. No. I never doubted she'd wise up.
You have your work cut out for your in WICKED. With how the book ended, it seems like you'll be busy for awhile. If you were granted one day off, what would be on your agenda? Or should I even ask. Now I'm thinking I don't even want to know what you'd be doing.......*coughs*

Well, I'm pretty sure you'd know what I'd do with most of my day off, but if I could take a day off and go anywhere in the world, I would take Ivy back home to Colorado.

*blushes* Yes, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you'd do on your day off. *clears throat* The line of work you and Ivy do is dangerous. Are you worried about how your relationship with Ivy might effect your work? Or concerned with how it might be used against either of you?

I think both of us are strong enough to not let our relationship interfere with our work, but I do worry for her. I know she can take care of herself and then some, but I still... yeah, I still worry.
Other than Ivy, your bike and your truck, what do you enjoy doing on your down time, on the rare occasion you get any extra time to yourself?

Napping. I enjoy napping.

Inquiring minds want to know, how in the world are you going to top the sexy times that happened in WICKED in the next book? I'm not sure you can top those. Then again, when it comes to you, I wouldn't be surprised if you upped the "it's freaking hot in here" factor.
Oh, I can top them. Trust me.
I don't doubt that for a moment. Is it hot in here? It just got really HOT in here. Can you work your Ren southern charm on Jennifer so she can hurry and get your next book in our hands already?
I'm worried that if I pressure her, she might just kill me of, so....
We definitely do not want that to happen. So I guess we'll re-read WICKED many times over until the sequel is out. Thank you for stopping by today Ren.

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

About ASA:

Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one stunning arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.

Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak. A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

Read An Excerpt:

I can feel Wilder’s breath against my lips. More than that, I can see it. The sun has set and the temperature has dropped, and air fogs between us. There’s something about actually seeing it, like our lips are touching, we are touching, despite the distance between. And as we sway from side to side, my heart gradually begins to pick up speed.

The strains of guitar music flowing out from the restaurant are nearly indecipherable over the heavy heartbeat in my ears. But Wilder must hear it. His hands are strong on my body, guiding my movements, and I’m practically clay in his palms.

We dance, eyes on eyes, lips nearly on lips, and there is lightning beneath my skin each time his body brushes against mine in a new way. His touch is firm, but gentle, never pushing or pressuring, though I can tell from the dark look in his eyes that he’s just as affected as I am. The music shifts, building to a crescendo, and he spins us. My chest pushes tight against his, and I bite back a gasp. I don’t know if it’s the cold or him or some combination of both, but the tips of my breasts are painfully tight. Just the pressure of my bra is enough to rub them raw.

I remember the night at his apartment, the way he’d taken his time learning my body. I think of the heat of his mouth on my skin, and the memory alone is enough to make me shiver and clench.

He’s back to being business, grown-up Wilder tonight in his button down and glasses. Only now that I know him, it doesn’t seem like such a stark difference. He is neither the straight-laced man nor the tattooed bad boy. Or perhaps he’s both. Regardless of what he’s wearing, Wilder is caring and loyal and strong and so sexy that I’m having trouble remembering why I shouldn’t push him into the backseat of his SUV and crawl on top of him.
